MEROOGAL WOMEN’S ART PRIZE 2020

NOW SHOWING

MEROOGAL

Sydney Living Museums is proud to present the biennial Meroogal Women’s Art Prize, now in its 18th year. Inspired by our 2020 themes of community, connection and impact, we’re delighted to be celebrating the achievements and creativity of female artists across NSW. The prize pays tribute to the four generations of women from the Thorburn and Macgregor families who lived at Meroogal in Nowra for almost 100 years.

Artists were invited to create works that respond to Meroogal and its sense of place. In their selection of finalists from hundreds of entries, our judges looked for artworks that cast new light on the stories of the people who lived here, and the house’s rich and diverse collection of treasures.

The work of the 40 finalists will be exhibited in the historic house of Meroogal from 19 September 2020 to 17 April 2021.

Winners will be announced on 23 September 2020.

Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts invites artists working in traditional and digital print media to participate in the 10th Compact Prints International Print Exhibition & Exchange. The project has been Umbrella’s signature biennial exhibition since 2002. It has evolved into a significant benchmark of international engagement and networking for printmakers and as a forum to exchange artwork and ideas. It also provides artists an opportunity to exhibit in a contemporary gallery space while supporting Umbrella through its fundraising auction.

This year, Umbrella is asking artists to post / deliver 3 identical prints (from 1 edition) at 12 x 12cm to Umbrella: 1 print is exhibited (and kept by Umbrella for archiving and potential touring); 1 is auctioned as a fundraiser for Umbrella to assist with event and touring costs; and 1 print is posted as an artwork exchange with another participant, through a random selection process. The exhibition, artworks and details will also be documented and presented digitally. Artists from North Queensland (or those willing to travel) may also opt to book for our Compact Prints Workshop Series which includes registration.
