Mark Rowden designed Cover Art for new book

Mark Rowden has created the cover artwork for the newly revised edition of award-winning Irish author Claire Keegan’s *Antarctica*. Tasked with bringing a fresh visual to Keegan’s storytelling, Mark has designed a piece that captures the qualities which define her work. This special edition is now available at your local bookshop. It features Mark’s artwork which invites readers deeper into the world of *Antarctica*. Don’t miss the chance to check it out!

A fair within the Fair; presented in association with The Print Council of Australia Inc, the dedicated Paper sector showcases the best of national and international contemporary works on paper – watercolours, drawings, artist books, prints and editions.

There are quite a few members of Sydney Printmakers participating this year.

Andy Totman and Anne Starling are showing at the Fair with CBD Gallery, and Andy is programming the artist demonstrations.

MarK Rowden is showing with Whaling Road Studio.

Michael Kempson and Cicada Press have a table.

Roz Kean is showing at Michelle Perry Fine Arts by invitation, along with Wendy Stokes. Roz is also doing a demonstration on Friday at midday on Traditional Japanese Mokuhanga.

Therese Kenyon is at UPSpace, and the gallery will be showing the work again later at Marrickville for those who miss the Art Fair.

Drew Truslove’s ink drawings present a striking portrayal of the landscape, capturing ever-
changing views from a single vantage point.
Mark Rowden contributes to the dialogue with his lino prints and prints of natural foliage,
adding a new dimension to the exhibition.
“Line and Leaf: Impressions of the Gully” aims to not only showcase the local area’s beauty
but also shed light on its historical and cultural significance.

Open the 7th to the 25th February, 10am to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday.

Selected-a curated Photography & Printmaking exhibition

Selected is an opportunity to see into the practice of 22 contemporary artist exploring and thriving in using the medias of Printmaking and Photography across 52 images on display.

Curated by Andy Totman, the show features Sydney Printmakers members Anthea Boesenberg, Rafael Butron, Ben Rak, Jenny Robinson, Mark Rowden, Gary Shinfield, and Anne Starling.

Photography and printmaking are similar in that they both have the capability to reproduce an image multiple times with very little variation in the resulting print. However, photography came about through the desire to create exact visual replicas of forms and scenes without manual intervention, while printmaking originally aided the production of photographic illustrations in books by providing a stronger, non-light sensitive ink. Despite this, the two can exist harmoniously together, and photography provides a whole spectrum of new techniques for the printmaker to use in their artworks.

Introducing Our New Members: Mark Rowden

Please welcome Mark Rowden, one of our four new members.

Mark Rowden’s works describe modern moments and memories, with a subtle reflection of the past. Rowden finds inspiration in moments of social interaction, isolation and beauty.

As a master printer he constructs works through the traditional process of relief printmaking, breaking down the visual information to a graphic form, creating shadows and spaces which the viewer can move through, and sharing symbols and stories of living in a modern society.

Mark studied at The National Art School, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2000. Rowden worked at Whaling Road studios, one of Australia’s oldest print workshops, for many years. While working there he printed for a number of renowned Australian artists.

He has exhibited widely in Sydney in many group and solo shows. He was invited to be a part of the International Print Biennale in Brazil twice. Rowden’s work is held in numerous private and commercial collections, including Broken Hill and Wagga Wagga Regional Galleries.

Recent exhibitions include The Latterns Pavilion activation 2023, Secret Sitter 2023 – Goodspace and Prints4Ukarine – CBD Gallery 2023. Art Prizes – Gippsland Print Prize – Gippsland Regional Gallery, Sunshine Coast Art Prize – Caloundra Regional Gallery, Remagine, Hornsby Art Gallery and Whitewall project art prize.

He has an upcoming solo show in Colorado, USA, December 2023 and a Duo show at Incinerator Gallery in 2024.
