Congratulations To Members Selected Finalists in the Gosford Art Prize and Northern Beaches Environment Award

Out of a record 1518 submissions made to Gosford Art Prize, 148 artworks were selected, including those by Gary Shinfield, Roz Kean, Rew Hanks and Carolyn Craig. This years judges were Dean Cross and Sally Dan -Cuthbert.

The Awards presentation and exhibition Opening Night Event is on Friday 25 September 6pm.

Dream and Reason: Paradoxes of the Sublime

at Gallery Lane Cove+ Creative Studios

Dream and Reason explores the Romantic notion of the sublime, a concept that is both catastrophic and transcendent, quiet and terrible. Standing in for that which lies beyond thought and language, the sublime is unbounded, paradoxical and polarising, with the power to provoke both awe and fear. The exhibition examines the interplay between human reason and nature’s overwhelming forces and the mind’s capacity to transcend its own limits in the search for infinite space, spiritual rhythms and elemental truths. 

The show also celebrates printmaking’s long history in Australia, marking the 60thyear of the Australian Print Council and the 65th of the Sydney Printmakers, a tribute to the medium and the artists who take on its challenge.

Can I submit a ‘painting’ to the M16 Artspace Drawing Prize? How do you define drawing?

Absolutely. The M16 Artspace Drawing Prize is open to a wide range of art forms, including both traditional drawing media and techniques, as well as innovative non-traditional works that push the boundaries of what drawing can be within contemporary art practice.

While the prize is named the ‘Drawing Prize,’ we encourage artists to interpret ‘drawing’ broadly. You can submit works that may be classified as paintings or other art forms if they align with your interpretation of drawing within contemporary art. We are interested in exploring the expansive and evolving definition of drawing.

Ro Murray in UNRuly M16 Artspace Canberra

PASSION is a 16m mural of 27 new charcoal portraits extending the project celebrating Australian elder women artists to 60 portraits. Amongst them are printmakers Bettina McMahon (1930 – 2024), Bea Maddock (1934-2016), Ethel Spowers (1890 – 1947), Margaret Woodward (1938-)Nyapanya Yunupinju (1945 – 2021). Murray and Burgess draw back and forth in their collaborative project.
