New Member Ro Murray

Ro Murray, One Thousand Metre Contour, lino print on pianola rolls, 2025

Ro Murray is a multi-disciplinary artist, who moves between Mt Victoria, Sydney and Killcare. Her art practice is influenced by a career in architecture and later attending the National Art School. Since 2018 her practice has focussed on lino printing, both with uncarved blocks of colour and with carved blocks. She builds series of unique and repeated prints. Ro has enlarged her prints into wall paintings and wall constructions. Her recent lino prints on pianola rolls connect narrative and place in a landscape journey. They combine personal experiences of the location with topographic and historical research.

Ro has staged many solo exhibitions and been selected for many art prizes and awards. In the last year her printed rolls were selected for the Canberra Art Biennial, Arte Laguna Prize Venice, and Artist Book Awards Manly Library, and acquired by the State Library NSW.

She is part of the mountains-based collaboration Murray and Burgess making installations about the environment, and a committee member of Modern Art Projects Blue Mountains.

Janet Parker Smith @ Ridge Street Window Gallery

Janet Parker-Smith Wicked Garden  |  24 November 2023 – 8 January 2024

The work in this installation reconfigures found materials from our urban landscape and repurposes prints from the artists collection from over the past 30 years. Look and you might see recognisable materials from everyday life that have been transformed into new creatures, objects and forms.

Using different art forms including collage, printmaking, digital print, ceramics, knitting and textiles combined with chattels from the everyday, these materials come together to create an artwork known as the ‘Wicked Garden’. Showing a flight of imagination it looks at ideas around our changing environment, friendships and adapting to new surroundings.

About Janet Parker-Smith

Janet Parker-Smith has a cross disciplinary process using Printmedia, sculpture and collage to create her work. She has been exhibiting nationally and internationally for over 30 years. Janet is well known as a local arts worker and also is a sessional teacher at the National Art School and Sydney Collage of the Arts.

Installation of the show: To the Edges

June 27, 2021 by Anthea Boesenberg Leave a Comment

Here are some shots of installation of the Sydney Printmakers show at Manly Art Gallery and Museum. Katherine Roberts and her team did a wonderful job.

Unfortunately we are now under lockdown, so no sooner was the show opened than it had to shut down again. Please go and see it when the lockdown ends.

We await news about whether, when, and in what form the Artists in Conversation with Katherine Roberts will go ahead, but unless the lockdown is extended, the demonstrations should still happen.

See wall-based prints, installations, sculpture and video from Alison Alder, Anna Kristensen, Ben Rak, Erica Seccombe, Gary Carsley, Judy Watson, Michael Kempson, Milan Milojevic, Samuel Tupou and Tony Curran.

Exhibition catalogue availble with essays by Ben Rak, Glenn Barkley & Tim Gregory
