Crescendo Artists Book Award

You have plenty of time to prepare work for this exciting new book award.

Crescendo 2025 Artist Book Award will be open to artists living in Australia and the Asia Pacific. Each artist may submit up to two artist books for consideration. Each entry must be an original work of the artist(s) made after 1 November 2023. Please note that due to space constraints, large scale installation works will not be considered.

Submissions of new work will be accepted from 1 April to 1 August 2025. Selected work will be exhibited at Clifton School of Arts on the northern Illawarra Coast of NSW, Australia in November 2025.

Crescendo 2025 Artist Book Award is non-acquisitive. $5,000 will be awarded to the winning entry and $1,000 to the best entry by a local artist from the Wollongong LGA.

Anne Smith’s work acquired by Blue Mountains Cultural Centre

Every year the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre Fine Art Collection grows through donations and purchases. Our most recent acquisitions include works by: Vicky Browne, Bette Mifsud, Peachey & Mosig, Michael Shirley, Anne Smith, and Leanne Tobin.

There will be an exhibition of ‘New Acquisitions’ at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre from the 19th October, which will include Anne’s work.

The Cultural Centre is at 30 Parke Street, Katoomba. Hours are 10am to 5pm weekdays, 10am to 4pm weekends.

Colour Theory Saturday, 26th October,  2:45 – 4PM

This Panel will discuss the different approaches to the use of colour within the exhibition and colour making stories.

Andrew Totman is a master printmaker and educator working predominantly in printmaking and painting. Holding a Master of Fine Art from Wichita State University and Bachelor of Fine Art from University of San Diego Totman’s professional arts background covers four decades, and six continents and his works are held in major public, private and university collections. Totman has held over 70 solo exhibitions in Australia.

Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Art 2025: Call for Entries

Entries are now open for the Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Art (NPCA) to artists across Australia, working in any medium.

This biennial competition includes four monetary prizes:

  • Open Prize: $20,000
  • Local Prize: $10,000
  • Mayor’s Award: $500
  • People’s Choice Award: $500

The Open and Local Prize are acquisitive. This means that the winning artworks become part of the Nillumbik Shire Art Collection.

Therese Kenyon at Upspace : Rinse and Repeat

Just in case you missed us at ‘Works on Paper’, Booth B04 in the Sydney Contemporary Art Fair at Carriageworks, we are restaging our show at the newly refurbished Upspace Gallery – opening Sept 13 – 22.

Gallery visiting: Friday to Sunday 11am – 4pm and by appointment.

Artists; Wayne Hutchins, Gail Kenning, Therese Kenyon and Barbara Licha will rehang their works and include other paper based artists Anie Nhue, Sue Pedley, Jan Fieldsend and Tina Fiveash.

The Upspace Gallery+Studios is located at Addison Rd Community Centre, on the traditional lands of the Gadigal People and the neighbouring Kameygal and Wangal Peoples. We pay our respects to all those who have lived and created in this place.

Carriageworks

A fair within the Fair; presented in association with The Print Council of Australia Inc, the dedicated Paper sector showcases the best of national and international contemporary works on paper – watercolours, drawings, artist books, prints and editions.

There are quite a few members of Sydney Printmakers participating this year.

Andy Totman and Anne Starling are showing at the Fair with CBD Gallery, and Andy is programming the artist demonstrations.

MarK Rowden is showing with Whaling Road Studio.

Michael Kempson and Cicada Press have a table.

Roz Kean is showing at Michelle Perry Fine Arts by invitation, along with Wendy Stokes. Roz is also doing a demonstration on Friday at midday on Traditional Japanese Mokuhanga.

Therese Kenyon is at UPSpace, and the gallery will be showing the work again later at Marrickville for those who miss the Art Fair.
