Sydney Printmakers members have been selected as finalists in several Prizes recently.

Seong Cho has been selected for the Waverley Art Prize with Unaccompanied Trail VI (above).

Janet Parker Smith and Ben Rak have been selected for the Geelong Acquisitive Print Awards 2021.

Anthea Boesenberg and Danielle Creenaune have been selected for the Firestation Print Studio Australian Monoprint Prize 2021.

Printmaking Prize 2021: Call for Entries

Waverley Woollahra Art School is excited to launch its inaugural Printmaking Prize in 2021.

Our Prize is a celebration of print and as such we invite entries from artists using all print techniques from traditional to digital. We invite entries from printmakers who are established, emerging, only just beginning as well as cross-disciplinary artists exploring the world of print.

2021 Prizes are non-acquisitive and include:

Traditional Print Prize: $1,000
Digital Print Prize: $1,000

Entries close at midnight Friday 30th July

Judging will take place online. 20 finalists will be selected (10 from each category) and these works will be exhibited in an online exhibition on the WWAS website. Finalists will be announced on 15 September 2021 and winners will be notified by the 22 September.

It is an intaglio focused prize (techniques include drypoint, engraving, etching, mezzotint, aquatint, lino etching)
Hand colouring and further print applications acceptable in combination with the intaglio process

Northern Beaches Environmental Art and Design Prize

The Environmental Art & Design Prize is currently inviting submissions from artists and designers across the country who are engaged with the natural world, sustainable living or responding to climate change in their contemporary practice.

Artists and designers are asked to submit original works that contribute to these ongoing conversations. Entries are now open and close 21 June, 5pm.

The Prize will be presented across three Northern Beaches’ arts venues from 6 – 22 August 2021– Manly Art Gallery & Museum (MAG&M); Creative Space, North Curl Curl and the Mona Vale Creative Pop Up Gallery.

This year the Prize judges are internationally renowned artist Euan Macleod; artist, designer, curator and creative advisor Liane Rossler; and CEO and Artistic Director of the Australian Design Centre, Lisa Cahill.

A $40,000 prize pool across categories from textiles and digital media to painting and sculpture and Young Artist and Designers.

Bay of Fires Art Prize Call for Entries

The 2021 Bay of Fires Art Prize is now open and calling on artists to enter.

This year’s theme is “Island Awakening” and is open to artists in Painting, Sculpture, Textiles, Drawing, Printmaking, Photography and Mixed media. Entries now open for this $20,000 acquisitive art prize.

Brunswick Street Gallery is excited to announce that entries are now open for the Fifty Squared Art Prize 2021. With over $6000 in prizes to be awarded, this art prize is open to all 2D artworks measuring 50x50cm or less. All levels of experience welcome, ALL entries exhibited 25 June – 9 July 2021.

MEROOGAL WOMEN’S ART PRIZE 2020

Sydney Living Museums is proud to present the biennial Meroogal Women’s Art Prize, now in its 18th year. Inspired by our 2020 themes of community, connection and impact, we’re delighted to be celebrating the achievements and creativity of female artists across NSW. The prize pays tribute to the four generations of women from the Thorburn and Macgregor families who lived at Meroogal in Nowra for almost 100 years.

Artists were invited to create works that respond to Meroogal and its sense of place. In their selection of finalists from hundreds of entries, our judges looked for artworks that cast new light on the stories of the people who lived here, and the house’s rich and diverse collection of treasures.

The work of the 40 finalists will be exhibited in the historic house of Meroogal from 19 September 2020 to 17 April 2021.

Winners will be announced on 23 September 2020.

Welcome to Print Day in May!

Print Day In May is a global celebration of printmaking, held annually on the first Saturday in May in print shops, studios, kitchens, on beaches and sidewalks all over the world.

Join us the first Saturday in May. Every year. Always.

Join us by registering on this site and/or joining the Facebook group Print Day in May Printmakers. Of course you can follow us on Instagram as well! Registration through this site gives you authorship on our blog pages, your name on the site as a participating artist, and emailed PDM newsletters.

For over ten years Robynn Smith and the MPC Printmakers have devoted the first Saturday in May to fine art printmaking. What began locally in the greater Monterey Bay Area of California in 2007, has become a worldwide event. In 2019, artists from all 50 US states, 60 different countries and all 7 continents participated! We are astonished, printmakers. We are thankful, and so proud to have you with us.

Please register for this annual, worldwide event right here. Once registered, this site/blog is for you! Post pix, respond to other printmakers and build community through our shared love of printmaking.

By providing a creative synergy and a forum for sharing and building community, this event unites printmakers worldwide and fosters a better understanding and appreciation of printmaking.

Participation is easy. Just make a print on May 2, 2020! Let the world know what you are doing by chiming in on our blog, Instagram and/or Facebook page.

Send us photos of your prints, your studios and your printmaking friends.

Invite guests and friends into your studios to share your love of printmaking.
