Abbotsleigh Grace Cossington Smith Biennial art award 2026

Submissions are invited from Australian artists for original work in any two-dimensional media in response to the theme ‘Making Connections’.

Prizes and opportunities:

Abbotsleigh Grace Cossington Smith award (acquisitive) $25,000

Abbotsleigh Grace Cossington Smith award to an early career artist (non acquisitive) $5,000

Abbotsleigh Grace Cossington Smith award to a local artist from the Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai area (non acquisitive) $5,000

and

A finalist will be selected for a 3:33 Art Projects collaboration.

Burwood Art Prize 2026

for the Burwood Council Collection. This year also marks an exciting new partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art.

THEME: I AM HERE

 Celebrating Cultural Narratives and Perspectives.

The 2026 theme I AM HERE invites artists to consider ideas of presence, identity and place in their work. It acknowledges the role of cultural identity, lived experience and community in contemporary multicultural Australia and will guide the selection and presentation of works in the 2026 Burwood Art Prize exhibition.

Artists are encouraged to interpret this statement as an invitation to explore how art can facilitate dialogue and connect audiences with the different experiences that inform our sense of community.
