2020 National Works on Paper: MPAG

May 1, 2020 by Anthea Boesenberg Leave a Comment

Application closing date: 19 July 2020

2020 National Works on Paper
An MPRG exhibition

Entries are open for the 2020 National Works on Paper (NWOP), the leading works on paper exhibition and awards in the country. MPRG is committed to finding and displaying the best examples of contemporary drawing, printmaking, painting, digital prints and paper sculpture from across Australia. The winner of the Major Acquisitive Award receives $15,000 (includes the purchase price) and we have up to $50,000 worth of acquisitions and awards.

The deadline for entries was recently pushed back to 19 July to give artists additional time to submit applications. Finalists will be announced in early August and the exhibition scheduled once we can confirm the re-opening of the MPRG following the current Covid-19 closure.

The 2020 NWOP will be the second show in our new exhibition program following our major 50th Anniversary Collection exhibition. Stay tuned for confirmation on dates.

This year we have three new judges who will add their experience and insight to the judging process: Louise Tegart, Director at the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Gina Mobayed, Director of Goulburn Regional Art Gallery and MPRG’s Senior Curator Danny Lacy.

Once again we will be producing a fully illustrated catalogue for the exhibition, with artist statements accompanying each of the artworks. Our past three NWOP publications are online and are worth looking through before you apply to get a sense of the way previous finalists have explained their work.

During the 2018 National Works on Paper prize we produced a series of podcasts with finalists including Kylie Stillman, Katherine Hattam, Danica Chappell, Rosie Weiss and James Tylor and Laura Wills, who were the winners of the $15,000 Mornington Peninsula Shire / Beleura – The Tallis Foundation major acquisitive award.
