Biography
I am a studio-based printmaker and painter. My printing methods concentrate on etchings, both on zinc and caustic soda on linoleum. My printmaking journey has traversed two different worlds – on the surface quite diverse yet threaded with strands of connectivity.
My initial focus was on memories - those of my mother and mother-in-law. Their lives were rich in meaning - overcoming life challenges through spirit and determination. My work was inspired by their words and life numbers which I reflected through the overlapping of forms and textures.
More recently I have been inspired by the intrigue of nature – in particular trees and landscapes. I see patterns everywhere in forms and numbers, waiting to be recognised and deciphered.
For me both worlds are intimately connected – how the roots of the mothers so resemble those of a tree – laying foundation, ensuring growth, providing sustenance.
