Marcus is a Sydney-based artist whose practice investigates the intersections of image, history, and the built environment. Employing a multifaceted approach that encompasses analogue printmaking, photography, and collage, he explores themes of entropy, time, and memory. Drawing upon a diverse range of historical and contemporary visual sources, Marcus constructs layered narratives that examine the relationship between image, context, and interpretation. His work critically engages with systems of authority and consumption, while simultaneously emphasizing the materiality and tactility of the creative process. Through the careful manipulation of techniques such as toner transfer, direct relief printing, and layered, overlapping processes, Marcus explores the nuances of mark-making and the presence of the hand. His work often focuses on the built environment, documenting both abandoned and contemporary urban spaces to reveal the complex interplay of power, identity, and memory within evolving landscapes. Marcus holds an MFA in Printmaking from the National Art School.
